FAQ

HOW CAN WE HELP YOU?

Have questions? Bellow you’ll find answers to the questions we get asked the most

  • 1. What does Extra Virgin mean?

Extra virgin refers to the highest grade of olive oil, obtained from whole unbruised and handpicked olives that are transported directly in aerated crates to the olive oil extraction unit. Once there they are passed through cold-temperature mechanical extraction without the use of any solvents or refining methods. The resulting oil will have a superior taste, with some characteristic fruitiness and no defined sensory defects.

  • 2. Where can I purchase your products?

Make an online purchase on our website for worldwide delivery through DHL, or visit our House of Zejd concept store in Beirut, or one of our trusted partners.

  • 3. How long does olive oil last?

Our olive oils have a production and an expiry date printed on the back label. An unopened bottle of olive oil will retain its quality, in terms of taste and composition, for up to eighteen months from the date it was bottled. Once a bottle is opened, it should be consumed within a few months.

  • 4. How should I store my olive oil to keep it fresh?

Olive oil should be stored in a cool, dry, dark place, away from direct light — why our extra virgin olive oils are bottled in dark-colored glass bottles for added protection.

  • 5. Are your products organic certified?

YES. Part of our olive plantation and our whole processing system are both certified organic by CCPB for Lebanon and the E.U. markets.

  • 6. What is the difference between conventional and organic olive oil

The difference between organic olive oil and conventional olive oil lies in the farming and manufacturing practices employed. Conventional olive does not necessarily contain additives or pesticides; however, it has not been certified to claim otherwise. Traditionally, all olive oil was made as per what we now call organic, with no chemical additives or pesticides to aid production.

  • 7. Which variety of olives are used to make your extra virgin olive oil?

The Souri variety, the most prominent variety in Lebanon. It is of medium hardiness, with medium and alternate productivity, year on year. It is moderately resistant to drought, cold, and salinity, but sensitive to olive leaf spot, verticillium wilt, and olive knot. The fruit is used for quality oil production as well as green or black olive pickling. Oil yield is medium to high.

  • 8. How do you transport the olives to the mill?

The olives are transported in crates from the orchards to the olive oil extraction unit, in order to keep the olives aerated.

  • 9. Is your olive oil filtered?

Yes. After storing, the oil for some time and letting it settle it is then filtered using carton paper to remove any impurities — mainly suspended solids and water that would otherwise impart the oil with negative attribute (muddy sediment) in the long run.
